Peace Heroes Summer Camp 2019

Over fifty former students of the Lighthouse School gathered together during the first two weeks of July for our summer English program. This year we highlighted Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malala Yousafzai from the Peace Heroes curriculum and shared their stories of overcoming great difficulties and challenges. The students were inspired and encouraged to consider new ideas and participate in creative ways to implement the lessons learned from these two ‘heroes’. The following quote from MLK Jr. was highlighted during the first week:

Darkness cannot drive out darkness;

Only light can do that.

Hatred cannot drive out hatred;

Only love can do that.

Thanks to a great group of volunteers who participated and the incredible leadership of Lisa Neely who led the camp, the students experienced an enjoyable and memorable two weeks. Special thanks to Elie Pritz and Susan Shadid for introducing the Peace Heroes curriculum and helping us present it to the students in Gaza.
